The Summer Driving Checklist for Porsche Owners

Although your Porsche loves to play in the snow, it gets an even bigger kick out of finding open roads to cruise in summer. That’s when you can get the most out of your Porsche and not just from a performance standpoint. If you’re driving a 911 convertible or 718 Boxster, summer is when the top can relax neatly folded behind you and it’s also when you may take your Panamera, Cayenne or Macan to the lake with the whole family ready to let off some steam.

Driving in summer isn’t as unpredictable as it can be in the middle of February, but there are still precautions that need to be taken to make sure you get the most out of your summer drive. The checklist below highlights a few summer tips that will add an extra layer of protection from the sun for your Porsche and make sure it is at its best on every journey.

Get Your Porsche Serviced Before a Long Journey

If you’re in between service appointments, chances are your Porsche’s fluids and other components are fine and ready to go for a long summer road trip. But, if your Porsche is scheduled for a maintenance appointment right after you return from your long summer road trip, you might want to get it serviced before heading out. This way you will be sure that every liquid is topped off, every bolt is tightened and every function and feature like the air conditioning system, for example, is working in optimal condition. Any small issue can be exacerbated during a long summer drive on the highway in very hot conditions and it’s never a bad idea to get everything checked out if you haven’t been at the dealer in a while before leaving.

Check the Tires and the Wipers

Tire pressure and overall tire quality is probably the most important determinant of how your Porsche behaves. Hot weather and extended use in summer can accelerate wear and tear on your tires so if they are close to the end of their lifecycle, it’s probably best to replace them sooner rather than later. Your tires should also be rotated regularly, and your wheels also need to be aligned on a regular basis. More specifically, alignment is checked every 15,000 kilometers so if you haven’t been in for a service appointment recently, we will take care of it during your pre-trip maintenance and inspection appointment.

We tend to forget the importance of the little things like wiper blades but do check them as well before heading out for a long drive and make sure they are in good condition to get the best visibility in the rain.

Paint and Upholstery Protection

Concerned about the impact of direct sun on your paint for an extended period of time? What about those small rocks that dot the highway? More importantly, are you concerned about what could happen if those grape juice boxes go flying on your beige leather upholstery on your next family trip? Porsche Centre Calgary can provide you with a range of protection products for your Porsche’s interior and exterior.
