Porsche maintenance and servicing: it’s not what you may expect
Those who know the automotive industry well know that Porsche is somewhat of an oddball in the market. The German automaker builds certain vehicles that can go toe-to-toe and beyond with some of the world’s most prestigious exotics, and yet it also builds a $ 50,000 SUV and a four-door sedan with over 500 liters of cargo space.
Legendary reliability is part of Porsche’s aura
Most see the brand as a cut above Mercedes, BMW, and Audi at the very least in terms of exclusivity, and yet when you look at the cost of acquisition, and more importantly of ownership, you realize you can’t put Porsche in the same category as Ferrari or any other exotic automaker.
That’s because Porsche vehicles, for all they are worth in terms of performance, sportiness and street credibility, are actually very simple to maintain and service, and surprisingly reliable. In fact, Porsche’s reliability is legendary, and you can see that when you speak with Porsche owners or you read some of the world’s most recognized dependability and/or reliability studies.
Case in point is J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Study, a ranking of the initial quality of a particular model within the first 90 days of ownership. The study highlights the number of problems each new vehicle experiences in the first three months, and then ranks each model in its respective segment.
Two Porsche models, the Porsche 911 and the Porsche Macan, finished at the top of their class when it comes to the lowest number of problems encountered by new owners in the first 90 days of ownership.
After-sales service on par with what you expect from Porsche
Porsche also stands out when it comes to the quality of the after-sales services offered by their dealerships like Porsche Center Calgary. Indeed, Porsche finished fourth among luxury automakers in this year’s J.D. Power Customer Service Index study, a ranking that looks at customer satisfaction for maintenance or repair work with owners or lessees of vehicles that are between one and five years old.
And because Porsche’ reliability is more than above average, and because you won’t find the exorbitant dealership rates and parts prices that you would find at an Italian exotic vehicle dealership, owning a Porsche costs the same if not less than any other German automaker.
