Designed for performance first and foremost, the Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman GTS 4.0 models introduced this month take the performance we are used to seeing from a 718 GTS and up the ante quite significantly. The 4.0-litre flat-six that lends its name to both models produces 394 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque. For comparison, the same engine produces 414 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque in the Boxster Spyder and Cayman GT4.
Spyder and GT4 worthy performance
In other words, the new 718 GTS 4.0 lineup delivers roughly the same performance as the exclusive, range-topping Spyder and GT4. Porsche says the 718 GTS 4.0 models can reach 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 293 km/h. Again, we aren’t very far from what we get in the Spyder and GT4.
The engine will be equipped with a standard Sport Exhaust system meaning that like all Porsche models with the GTS emblem, the sound will add quite a bit to the driver experience. Adaptive cylinder control allows the engine to function optimally when full power isn’t needed by switching off one of the two cylinder banks to improve efficiency.
Ride height has been lowered by 0.78 inches over the standard 718 Boxster and Cayman and both GTS 4.0 models get performance features such as Sport Chrono Package and Porsche Track Precision app standard. Other features include Porsche Stability Management with PSM Sport mode, Porsche Torque Vectoring, and Porsche Active Drivetrain mounts. All of these technologies work together to create a balanced and performance-oriented drive that will stimulate the senses and guarantee precise and unwavering control.
Visually, both the Boxster 718 GTS 4.0 and Cayman 718 GTS 4.0 feature traditional GTS design elements such as blacked out body areas, 20-inch exclusive wheels and Alcantara inserts in the cabin. GTS lettering in Carmine Red or Chalk is found inside.
Pricing hasn’t been announced, but the Porsche 718 GTS 4.0 lineup is already attracting attention worldwide. They will deliver the essence of 718 performance in the purest form possible.
