If you’ve ever driven one of Porsche’s many GTS models, you know all about the unique personality inherent to any Porsche vehicle sporting the GTS emblem. The latest model to receive the special designation is the Porsche Panamera.
Unveiled in October, the new Panamera GTS will be available in both sedan and Sport Turismo form and slots between the Panamera 4S and Turbo in the Porsche sedan lineup. Featuring a unique visual signature, sportier suspension settings and a distinct exhaust note, the Panamera GTS may just offer the perfect balance of performance and luxury.
For many enthusiasts, a Porsche GTS model offers the very best of everything. Sportier and faster than a 4S model (or S in the case of the 718) with more dynamic handling to boot, a GTS is still usable enough that it doesn’t become overwhelming like a Porsche Turbo model. That’s true in the 911 lineup and was true in the previous-generation Cayenne family. It’s also now true in the new Porsche Panamera.
You immediately know you’re behind the wheel of the GTS when you bring the engine to life. The sound of the exhaust is both deeper and much more aggressive in a GTS than in a 4S. Some even prefer it to the Turbo’s sound.
Speaking of the Panamera Turbo, lurking under the long hood of the new Porsche Panamera GTS is its twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 monster. You don’t get the 550 ponies, but you do get 453 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque sent to all four wheels through a retuned eight-speed dual-clutch PDK gearbox.
For Porsche, it was important to have eight cylinders under the hood. The performance of a V8 is widely different from a six-cylinder powertrain even if the magic of turbocharging provides equal power. There’s more low-end torque with a V8, and the engine reacts differently.
The previous-generation Panamera GTS (also with 440 horsepower) had a V8, and Porsche kept the tradition alive with the second generation. The Porsche Panamera GTS reaches 100 km/h in just over 4.0 seconds.
As a daily driver for someone who enjoys performance, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better luxury option than the Panamera GTS.
Standard Porsche Sport Chrono Package means that you can adjust how your Panamera behaves, from Normal to Sport or Sport Plus all the way to Individual which allows you to adjust various mechanical component settings independently.
These modes dramatically differ from one to the other and give the driver the on-road behavior he or she wants at that specific moment. In other words, you control how your Panamera GTS reacts and acts, and you can make it as comfortable or as loud and sporty as you wish.
With the Porsche Panamera GTS, you’re getting performance without compromising comfort, and refinement with compromising sportiness. Come to Porsche Center Calgary today to learn more about the brand-new Porsche Panamera GTS.
